Manhattan may boast the best department store holiday windows in NYC, but when it comes to homes decked out for the season, the outer boroughs have got it beat. I'm not talking about a few strings of twinkling lights and a blowup Santa. These illuminated holiday houses are so outrageous, it's amazing they don't cause constant Con-Ed blackouts. I haven't seen anything this over-the-top since the last season of RuPaul's Drag Race!
We've written about a few of these holiday houses in the past but we've added four new ones to this post (eight in total). Plus we've got photos, exact addresses, a map and the stories behind these destination displays that are all worth the schlep (we know, we've schlepped!). Considering most of them are in the far-flung reaches of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, you really do need to drive. If you want to avoid the crowds and traffic jams, go early in the evening on a weekday. These places get really busy on weekends.
